TBE

Terrestrial Biological Entity

A voice without a face, asking the questions we've stopped daring to ask.

What does it mean
to be human?

We are living through a crisis of the self. Not the dramatic kind — the quiet, ambient kind. The kind where you look up one day and realize you've been performing a life rather than living one.

TBE is one terrestrial biological entity talking to another. Anonymous. Unsponsored by anything that wants something from you. Just honest inquiry into what we've lost and what we might yet recover.

No face. No brand. No agenda beyond this: to think carefully about what it means to be alive right now — and to do something about it.

00:00There's a particular kind of grief that has no name yet. It's not the grief of losing someone. It's not even the grief of losing something. It's the grief of losing a version of yourself you didn't realize you were inhabiting until it was gone.

"We are not burned out. We are not depressed. We are simply the first generation asked to maintain a continuous public performance of the self from the moment we wake until the moment we sleep — and we are exhausted by a job we never applied for."

04:32The ancient question — who am I? — has always been difficult. Philosophers built entire careers on its evasion. But it used to be a question you asked in private, in the dark, in the space between waking and sleep. It was an interior question. A sacred question.

08:14Now it's a question we answer publicly, daily, in image and caption and reaction. We don't explore the question anymore — we perform our answer to it, constantly, for an audience that is itself performing its own answer. Everyone watching. No one seeing.

"The self is not something you broadcast. It is something you cultivate, in silence, in relationship, in the patient work of becoming."

15:40I want to be careful here not to make this a simple critique of technology. Technology is never the problem — it's a mirror, and we rarely like what mirrors show us. The question is: what are we choosing to put in front of the mirror? What are we choosing to amplify?
